EDM Drilling or sometimes referred to "Hole Popping" is a method of applying the electrical discharge machining process to drill holes that may prove challenging by typical machining methods. This process allows us to drill holes from .012-.125 inch diameter holes in any material that is electrically conductive. For reference a .040 inch diameter hole can be drilled through 2" thick hardened tool steel or specialty steels like Incoloy in about 1 minute. Drilling can be performed at angles to the component surface without the "drill walk" associated with typical drilling methods. Applications include wire EDM start holes, degassing holes, and vent holes to name a few.
